Knowledge Mapping Services

Knowledge Mapping is about making visible the knowledge which your organization depends on. Knowledge Mapping takes many forms, but the form which is most useful in Knowledge Management is that which maps knowledge needs and usage onto the core processes which drive the business.

InfoPlex are pioneers of process-based Knowledge Mapping in the UK and Europe, having undertaken our first large-scale mapping exercise in 1998. Clients ranging from small businesses to government agencies and large public transportation companies have engaged our Knowledge Mapping Services.

Client Cases

A UK government agency engaged an InfoPlex associate consultancy to undertake an extensive Knowledge Management Review. InfoPlex were engaged to map the organization's information and knowledge resources onto its core business processes. The resulting Knowledge Map indicated clearly the key knowledge needing to be nurtured and managed, the gaps in existing knowledge, and provided a roadmap for KM development.
A small but highly successful vendor of data communications equipment engaged InfoPlex to undertake a Knowledge Management Review. A key element of the deliverables was a detailed Knowledge Map showing how their knowledge and information resources were inadequately organized and how their IT systems and competitive culture inhibited the sharing of vital customer knowledge.
A major UK provider of metropolitan transportation engaged InfoPlex to map detailed engineering knowledge onto its processes which served to assure the appropriate maintenance and safety of its engineering assets. The resulting Knowledge Map linked process requirements to individual competences, indicating not only areas in which they were currently vulnerable, but also signalling a need for better succession planning.
